rafting in nepal

Nepal is one of the best destination in world for rafting.....the following are the rivers in nepal for rafting::

*Bheri River Rafting:For a Bheri river Rafting trip you have options between taking a one-and-a-half-hour flight to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu or a 627 km long journey by road. The flight provides you opportunity for the spectacular views of the Himalayas. If you prefer to take a flight, then a four-hour drive is required to reach Samjhighat, the put-in point. The drive itself is a unique experience winding up through the Siwalik Hills and passing through local villages.
The Lower Karnali can be run in five to seven days and still proves a major river journey that has got to fall in the category of being one of the best in the world. Depending on the level of the river, day four could still be in the jungle corridor. Once the gorge is exited the Seti river enters from the right, (this is the western Nepal Seti, not to be confused with the river close to Pokhara) and the river grade drops to class 2. Another day or two brings you to the Bheri river, entering from the left which has a good camping beach if you want to reach the take-out at lunchtime the following day. At the take-out, Chisopani, is an impressive bridge spanning the river and plenty of shops selling food, soft drinks and cold beer. The return bus journey to Kathmandu is about twenty hours. Alternative returns would be via the Bardia national park which is located nearby, or bus to Nepalganj (2 hours) and fly to Kathmandu from there.

*Karnali River Rafting:Popularly known as the longest river of Nepal, the River Karnali springs from the base of Mt. Kailash (Ngari), the center of pilgrimage for both Buddhists and Hindus. It is snow-fed from the melting Himalaya ranges. The river drains a huge area and is popular for river rafting. Flowing south into Nepal, the river has benefited some western districts of Nepal. The river provides good experiences of the finest big volume rafting and Kayaking trip in the world.

Upon arrival at Surkhet, we proceed trekking through lowland Sal forest to the village of Saul. The distance between Sauli and Chisopani, the northern border of the Royal Bardia National Park, is only about 180 kilometres. We would give plenty of time to explore some of the side canyons and waterfalls which come into the river valley.

The rapids in the river are also pretty wild. When we reach Lohore Khola, the valley narrows into a series of canyons, the river speeds up, and there are big rapids, one leading into another, almost continuously down to the Seti river from the 'Elbow' down to the Seti. The gradient is 3m/km (15ft a mile) but after here, the gradient eases as the river winds up and emerges onto the plains and starts flowing penetrating Bardia National Park and finally joins the Ganges. Finally, we come to the Bardia National Park and combine our rafting adventure with a safari trip. After completing the jungle activities, we drive back to Kathmandu.

*Bhote Koshi River Rafting:Known as a liquid rush, the Bhote Koshi River is closely associated with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. Tibet was known as ‘Bhot’ in the ancient times. So, the river flowing from Tibet is called ‘Bhote Koshi’. With many challenging rapids, this river falls in the category of technical rivers and offers entertainment to lovers of rafting. The river is one of the biggest branches of the Sun Koshi river. It flows along the Arniko Highway.

The river in the upper of Bahrabise is quite narrow with steep hill sides. The Upper Bhote Koshi joins the Sun Koshi near Bahrabise. The lower Bhote Koshi rafting starts right from Lamosangu, where the Arniko Highway and the road to Jiri join.

*Kali Gandaki River Rafting:The Kali Gandaki is one of the famous Himalayan rivers in Nepal. The river, which originates from the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, passes through the scenic mountain beds of Mustang, Myagdi and other districts. Passing through an arid open valley in Mustang and other areas, the river flows into the Trishuli river. Named after the goddess Kali, the holy river has the world’s deepest gorge between Mt. Daulagiri (8167m) to the west and Mt. Annapurna I (8091m) to the east.

The beautiful river swings south through areas, where tourists were almost unknown until some years in the past, after the river merges with its tributary, the Modi Khola. One can have scenic view of the mountain ranges, hills and rural settlements while experiencing whitewater rafting in the river.
As the riverside is quite rich in biodiversity, the area is rewarding for lovers of birds and wildlife. Many species of wildlife such as mongoose, monkey, leopard, among others, can be seen there. The rafting is suitable for both the beginners and the experienced one. Such variety can nowhere be found within a short span of time.

There are some options for the guests after completing this rafting. One can either drive or fly back to Kathmandu or drive to the Chitwan National Park or can go for trekking in the Annapurna Region.
*Marshyangdi River Rafting:The Marsyangdi River is another important river for rafting adventure in Nepal. It rises on the northern slopes of the Annapurna Himal flowing east through an arid valley around Manang and then swing south to join the Trisuli River at Mugling. The scenery is magnificent with every bend of the river opening up fresh vistas of some of the world’s highest mountains. The rafting provides ample of opportunities for photographer to capture the snapshots of boulders, some spectacular white water, green valley sides, and a magnificent backdrop of the world’s highest mountains. It’s worth mentioning that Marsyangdi River is one of the most outstanding grade Kayaking Rivers in the world. The river was opened for commercial rafting in 1996. The rapids in the river are tough and it requires a different approach that to other rivers like- Sun Koshi and Karnali.

*Sunkoshi River Rafting:The Sun Koshi is another important river for rafting. The river, which originates from Tibet, has been rated as one of the world’s top 10 rivers offering rafting trips. The river flows eastward of Nepal passing through beautiful valleys between the Mahabharat Range and the Himalayas. It is a vital watershed in eastern part of Nepal. Many tributaries coming from the Himalayan range, including the Khumbu Region, join the river. Ultimately, the river joins the Ganges in India.
The rafting trip in the Sun Koshi River starts from Dolalghat, where the Indrawati and the Sun Koshi rivers meet. We pass through several remote areas with the nature’s wilderness along the 270-kilometre adventurous trip. We may find the first two days relatively easier, as you need not have to face bigger rapids. After two days, we will pass through rapids such as Meat Grinder, High Anxiety, Jaws and Big Dipper. We can enjoy majestic views of the mountains and swim in the warm water. During night, we will be in camps on pristine white sandy beaches.
With the operation of the Banepa-Bardibas highway, rafting trips can also be arranged from Dumjabensi.
The changing scenery along the river sides offers us an exciting experience. During the starting days, we will have spectacular views of high mountains, open lush green valleys, beautiful forests and tiny rural settlements of various ethnic communities. As the tributaries of the river join the Sun Koshi River at different places, the river becomes bigger. We will be brought to open plains and urban-like settlements at Chatara in the Sunsari district.
It takes for us about 16 hours to return to Kathmandu by bus from Chatara. We can also fly to Kathmandu from Biratnagar. Biratnagar is just one hour’s drive from Chatara.

*Tamur River Rafting:Tamur River rafting trip is a wonderful white water trip, one of the best rafting trip in the world, approximately 130 rapids in 120 km. The Tamur river flows through a beautiful and unspoiled valley and the trek to the start is one of the most scenic in Nepal.
The Tamur river tributaries drain the snows of Kangchengdzonga, the third highest peak in the world. The Tamur river is the sixth largest river in Nepal and seems to have a feeling of thrusting power.
To start Tamur River rafting, possible to fly to Taplejung, we especially recommend the trek, a great way to start your river trip. The trek is not too difficult as it goes along the top of the ridge and then drops down to the river.

*Trishuli River Rafting:The Trishuli River is considered as a high commercial whitewater sports destination of Nepal. It is an excellent river for the beginners and to those who are looking for short rafting trip to Nepal. The rafting in this river provides beautiful scenery, peaceful environment and wonderful local cultural activities. The volume of water increases in the monsoon season. The river flows down through massive gorges towards southern direction and it takes its way through the 2000-meter high Mahavarat Range of mid-hill and then reaches the great plain of the Ganges of Indian plate. The Trisuli has its source in Ganesh and Langtang Himal.

The name of the river is associated with lord Shiva's three pointed stuff Trisul. Legend says that the god drove the tips into the ground creating three small lakes which form the headwaters of the river. It is Nepal's most popular rafting river. It has impressive gorges, exciting rapids, some easier sections, and is easily accessible from Kathmandu and Pokhara. No doubt, the Trisuli white water trip is exciting, funny and safe for all the rafters of all ages. The rafting can be combined with a trek to Pokhara and/or a visit to Chitwan National Park.

Among the various rivers, the Seti River has its own popularity in the field of whitewater rafting. The warm and beautiful Seti River passes through dense jungle, green hills and valleys. The riversides are also an excellent spot for bird watchers. During the monsoon, its swollen rapids provide an exciting and unique taste for the experienced rafters and kayakers. Similarly, one can reach the take-out point at Gaighat within 4-5 hours’ drive from Kathmandu.

The river systems include the Sapta Kosi in the east, the Narayani in the central, the Karnali in the west and the Mahakali in the far-west regions.
The Arun River is the biggest tributary of the Sapta Koshi River system. Originated in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of China, the river enters Nepal by cutting mountains near Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu and passes through Tumlingtar. Kartikeghat, which is close to Tumlingtar, is the place from where rafting trip in the Arun River normally begins. Tumlingtar is connected to Kathmandu and Biratnagar by air. We can also get to this place by trekking from Hile in Dhankuta district. This route is relatively much longer, as it takes for us about one and a half days’ bus drive to reach Hile from Kathmandu.
